Recordings

How recordings work

Press Record on a program in the Guide, or while you watch a channel. What happens next depends on two things: whether the channel has replay, and which device you're using.

From your provider's archive

Channels with replay

KIPTV doesn't save any video: it makes a note of the program and, when it ends, takes it from your provider's archive. You can watch it on all your devices for as long as your provider keeps it, usually a few days.

Want to keep one longer? With Keep it it's downloaded to your device and stays there even after your provider removes it.

On your device

Channels without replay

There's no archive to take it from, so your device records it while it's on air and keeps the file. You watch it only on the device that recorded it; your other devices tell you where it is, for example On Fire TV.

Good to know

Your line has only one connection?

While one device records, the others can't watch: your provider allows one stream at a time. KIPTV tells you which device is recording and what. If you need the TV right away, choose Watch anyway: the recording stops, and what's been recorded so far is kept.

Android asks for “Alarms & reminders”?

On phones and TVs with Android 14 or later, a scheduled recording starts while KIPTV is closed only if KIPTV has this permission: it asks for it the first time you schedule a recording on a channel without replay. Some TVs don't let you turn it on: there the recording starts only if KIPTV is open.

M3U playlists

Replay is there only if your provider marks it in the channel list. An M3U list doesn't say how many connections are in use, so on a line with one connection KIPTV can't warn you when a recording and watching overlap.

It starts early and ends late

Programs rarely start on the dot, so every recording starts 1 minute early and ends 5 minutes late. You can change this on each device with Start early and End late, at the bottom of the Recordings page.

Every episode of a series

On a series in the Guide, Record all episodes records each new episode that appears in the guide on that channel. Stop it whenever you like from the Recordings page: the episodes already recorded stay.

Where do I find them?

In Live›Recordings, and in the Your recordings row on the Home page.

What if the device runs out of space?

The recording stops and keeps what it has recorded up to that point.

Do recordings go through KIPTV's servers?

Never. A recording stays in your provider's archive, or it's recorded and kept by your own device: no video ever passes through KIPTV's servers.

Do I need Premium?

Yes: recordings are part of KIPTV Premium.
